Co budeš dělat

Clean Futures Fund organized and operates the Dogs of Chernobyl program, which has treated over 1,500 animals in the last 3 years. Our programs also include human health programs for Chernobyl Liquidators, current Chernobyl workers and sick and disabled children in areas affected by the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The Dogs of Chernobyl program treats the descendants of dogs that were abandoned after the 1986 Chernobyl disaster. These animals face hard lives in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, constantly fighting for the basic necessities like food, water and shelter during the harsh Ukrainian winters for survival.

During your visit we will meet and feed the abandoned dogs who live in the 30-kilometer Exclusion Zone around the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. You will learn about our mission and history treating these incredible animals. After meeting some of the dogs and helping with our feeding program for these abandoned animals, we will visit the abandoned city of Pripyat, where over 40,000 people lived before the disaster. Your visit will include many incredible experiences as you walk through an environment where people have been prevented from living for over three decades.
Other things to note
I am more than happy to help arrange transportation from Kiev (or directly from Kiev airport) to Slavutych, and also to make lodging arrangements for you in Slavutych. Please contact me if you have any questions!

My name is Lucas Hixson, and I along with my co-founder Erik Kambarian first came to Chernobyl over 5 years ago. My background is as a radiation specialist and before coming to Chernobyl, I monitored environmental contamination in the United States. In 2016, Erik and I founded Clean Futures Fund, a U.S. non-profit organization that supports the workers at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and affected communities. In 2017, Erik and I started the Dogs of Chernobyl program, in the last 3 years we have vaccinated and sterilized over 1,500 animals. In 2018 we received permission from the Ukrainian government to begin rescuing and adopting puppies from the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone to forever homes in the United States and Canada. To date we have adopted over 40 puppies.

Discovering the area with Lucas Hixson and getting to know the human stories of the people who are dedicating their life to Chernobyl was surreal and captivating. The experience will take you on a full immersive journey, nothing is left behind... and of course, the dogs are adorable. The work CFF is doing for both the people and the animals is crucial here. Thank you to Airbnb for supporting such an important mission, and to Lucas Hixson for his time and passion. Bless you guys. Léa and Hugo
