Come stay on the edge of the volcanic tablelands in west Chalfant. Exquisite views of the Sierra and White Mountains. Use this room as your base for fishing, hiking, climbing, skiing, and exploring the Eastern Sierra. Hot tub for night sky immersion!
Our home is a cozy, eclectically decorated space with lots of windows looking out on the Sierra and White Mountains. You can warm your feet by our electric fireplace or warm your whole body in our hot tub, which looks out over the Volcanic Tablelands to the Sierra Nevada beyond. There are no streetlights here in Chalfant, so the stargazing (especially from the hot tub) is fabulous. We have numerous outdoor sitting areas including "the veranda" and "sunset terrace." Tea and coffee are available anytime. We have a collection of books that includes local natural history that you are welcome to borrow. We have wireless internet and a 55" plasma TV (which currently has ESPN for the winter). Though your bed is a futon, it is comfortable and includes a comfy mattress topper.

We will provide breakfast for you if we are home, which may include my homemade granola, cereal, yogurt, oatmeal (with Drambuie, maple syrup and milk if you desire!), breakfast burritos, or homemade muffins or biscuits. We have lots of loose leaf teas and coffee from Bishop's Black Sheep Coffee, served in mugs from local potters.
Cell phones generally do not work out here. They will likely work until you turn off Hwy 6 onto Chalfant Road. I recommend making any calls from Bishop prior to arrival. :) The closest restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations are in Bishop, 12 miles south of Chalfant.
On good weather and no chains required days, we are one hour from the turnoff to June Lake, 40 minutes to Mammoth exit, 20 minutes to Benton Hot Springs, and 30 minutes to the Buttermilks.
In the summer, it's only half an hour to numerous trailheads that lead into the heart of the incomparable High Sierra. Mono Lake, famous for tufa formations and its key location on the Pacific Flyway is an easy hour-long drive to the north, with the high country of Yosemite just a few minutes further. Enjoy high country adventures during the day, then relax with a shower and hot tub under millions of stars in the evening.
FYI: the Owens Valley/Eastern Sierra where we are located is on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. In winter, many of the mountain passes are closed due to snow, including the pass through Yosemite high country, called Tioga Pass or Highway 120. Highway 120 east is also closed in the winter as is the road to Bodie. The Eastern Sierra is gorgeous so if you do want to travel the eastside, we encourage you to do so. We have good access to Death Valley and Mono Lake , Mammoth and June Mountain ski areas and endless beauty. But if you are on the west side in the winter it does take many hours to access us on the Eastside.
We love our little home and simply ask that you respect our home and our quiet. Arrival time must be before 10pm, checkout time is 11am (unless previously arranged). Two guests is absolutely the maximum we can accommodate. No smoking. No pets unless you have arranged that ahead of time with us as well. Please don't change the temperature setting on the hot tub. Thank you!
The room is in our home, so likely we'll be around. We have lived in the Owens Valley for over 30 years, and we'd love to chat with you about this beautiful place, maybe over a bottle of wine or a cup of tea!
