We had a lovely weekend in Shelburne Falls, in no small part due to gracious and welcoming accommodations provide by Karen. Her communication in advance was very cordial and helpful. We were in the village for the Bridge of Flowers road race, a 10K race that has a decades long history. Her house could not have been more convenient, not that anything is far away in such a small village. But walking to the starting line is so much nicer than any hassles with parking and trekking a bit, especially if you haven't run the race before and don't know your way around.
The apartment was integral to her home, but with a separate driveway and entrance around the back. It was very tastefully appointed, and looked to have been a recent addition to the house. It had really a very functional kitchen: small fridge, separate freezer compartment, 4 burner stove with small oven, microwave, coffee maker, tea kettle and teapot. A very comfy sitting room is merged with the kitchen area, and my son and his wife and infant child visited us for a couple of hours after the race easily.
When we arrived, I realized that I had forgotten to put in the car a bag that had our bananas, morning tea, and granola (pre-race ritual). Karen had gone shopping! There were bananas, bagels, cereal, fresh quart of milk, eggs, butter: all the essentials! And a pint of local churned premium ice cream!
The bathroom is full size, with tab/shower, and fully stocked with linens and all the essentials that you might need.
The bedroom is large, a very comfortable king sized bed, two sitting chairs, a desk, and a bureau. Bookcase was stocked with many novels, and local maps and some brochures were on the desk. The window A/C was plenty sufficient (it was in the 90s and quite humid, so A/C was a blessing for cooling the entire apartment.
We never made face to face contact, but she provided us with her phone number and the warm, genuine offer to be of any assistance. When I sent a message prior to our arrival about a couple of details, she was quite pro pt and helpful in her reply.
All told, a spectacular experience. We have made this little race an annual ritual, and will definitely try to stay with Karen next year.
