Night as a nomad!
The Nomad exhibition focuses on the nomadic way of life, whether it be a choice or necessity.
Seven caravans, temporary dwellings or experimental dwellings in the DEPO2015 courtyard are designed not only to present design and art, but also to sleep for the public.
From 15 June to 31 October 2017

Interior for the Husky Caravan 22 Tent
Students of the Studio of Furniture and Interior Design at the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen were assigned a difficult task by the studio’s head Jana Potiron. Is nomadism a job, life style or an involuntary and temporary state? There are many products and furniture used by nomads. The shared characteristics of all things are their capacity to be moved easily from place to place. These are things we appreciate for their practicality, functionality, variability, material or production simplicity and low price. Thus, the tent interior for the nomads of today’s age through the eyes of design students came to be born.
They found their initial inspiration in the successful Better Shelter project, a large tent for refugees developed by the IKEA Foundation. However, obtaining one of these tents for the exhibition was not plausible due to the minimum number of 96 per order, which is the content of a ship container. That’s why we selected the Husky tent, which is of a similar size. Ikea, however, was keen to start collaboration and provided the students with the necessary material. The students use Ikea furniture items in new creations that reflect the individual authors’ perception of nomadic practicality and sustainability, as well as a team perspective of a design that is focused on the elementary needs of a human, thus creating a moral and useful design. The final design is realised as a living unit for 2 to 4 persons with a great number of specific storage spaces and a place for meetings or work. This is all done with regard to a modest budget, variability and easy assembly.
Authors of the design are the following students: Kateřina Baurová, Monika Beníšková, Kateřina Bobková, Aneta Drobná, Dominika Husová, Adéla Nocarová, Daniel Skočil
Head of the Studio: Mgr.art. Jana Potiron, ArtD.
