Relax in the private hot tub, let the sun, the moon and the stars wink at you through the gentle undulations of the firs in the peace of Lothlorien Woods. Nestled in the foothills of scenic, snow-capped Mt. Adams, adjacent to the Columbia River National Scenic Area and close to wind-surfing, Hood River Oregon, Lothlorien Woods Hide-a-way is a serene and charming, one-of-a-kind tree-house hidden in the forest with a view of snow-covered Mt. Adams -- Second only to Mt. Rainier in the Pacific Northwest.

On the main floor is the small but fully equipped kitchen, propane range and wood stove. The wood stove provides the primary heat for the tree house - firewood is included in the rental fee. A propane infra-red grill is on the covered deck, conveniently located just outside the kitchen door.

The first floor sitting room has a fold-out futon/sofa covered with a coverlet made by the co-owner, Rebecca Conant. On the wall hangs one of her first quilts, entitled, "A Trip Around Lothlorien Woods: The Importance of Water." Throughout the treehouse quilts and photos by Rebecca are on display.

Up the spiral staircase find the handmade Western Red Cedar log bed and unique bathroom facilities.

Near-by all season activities abound - White Water Rafting, Kayaking, Swimming, Kite Boarding, Sail Boarding, Snow Shoeing, Cross-Country Skiing, Horseback Riding, Hiking, Spelunking in the Ice Caves, Waterfalls, and much more!

He is very social and loves to play with our guests (both human and canine) but may seem intimidating because of his size. You have the option of interacting with him or sending him "home." Keeping the gate at top of the stairs shut will keep him off the stairs and out of the treehouse. Joining Bruiser in the "Meet and Greet" duties are the treehousekeepers' “Blue” (Black Lab) and “Jewel” (Pit Mix). Although the dogs are friendly and social, we suggest parents caution and supervise their children about how to interact (or not) with dogs not known to them just as you would with city dogs.
oDog may go in the treehouse, but must stay on the main floor and is not permitted to get on the furniture. Also Dog is not permitted on the second floor, in the master bedroom suite, on the bed, in the shower, nor in the hot-tub.
oGuest assumes full responsibility for cleanliness of or damage to the treehouse/property as result of dog's occupancy, and any risk to dog if allowed to run outside without leash (eg. getting lost in the woods).
oGuest affirms that female dogs are not in heat. If Dog goes into heat during the stay, Dog is to be confined to the deck, and not allowed into the house. Guest is to supervise Dog when on the grounds and accepts responsibility for any consequences of their dog being in heat.
oGuest accepts liability for any damage or loss whether in and around the treehouse, to the property of the treehouse keeper(s), or to neighboring properties.
oGuest accepts liability for any action of the dog which results in bodily harm to another person or the farm animals while on the treehouse property.

I pride myself on writing objective and accurate reviews, but that is virtually impossible to do for the tree house. Objectively, you can't justify spending the price of a luxury hotel suite to stay in a hermit shack, no matter how well maintained or decorated. Subjectively, it is a different story entirely. This property is heavily booked because people need to get out of the city and off the grid. It's very relaxing to pet the friendly dogs and read your book without answering text messages and emails. If that's what you need and you can afford the price, the tree house might be a good choice for you. I will try to provide some useful advice for future visitors, because that's what I do. First, note that there are three extra charges added to the basic rental fee. Our $290 fee for two nights ended up being $423. The last two miles of road is dusty, washboard gravel that goes through a moonscape of ugly clearcuts before entering a nice second growth forest just before arriving at the tree house. If you can let someone else drive, just close your eyes so this doesn't spoil your experience. One of the first things you see when you drive up is an axe stuck in a piece of firewood. Think of this as a warning that you have to use common sense to avoid getting hurt here. This is not the place to come if you want to get heavily intoxicated - keep your wits about you, especially on the stairways. The interior is cramped with multiple places to bump your head, stub your toe or pick up a splinter if you aren't careful. Large people may feel claustrophobic inside and people with physical disabilities may have trouble moving around safely. Don't expect the tree house to be isolated in the deep woods. It is built on the edge of a treeline adjacent to an open area with homes, barns, a corral, machinery, etc... You will hear some human activity. The upside is that the caretakers live only 100 yards away if you need anything and they are very helpful. Don't be scared of the big dogs, they are very sweet. The cat loves pizza and sitting on the edge of the hot tub.

We run our own business and needed a place to go so that we could literally "unplug" and relax. Fortunately, we found this amazing place where we could do just that!! We have rented so many places for our limited days off and have never experienced anything like this trip. The tree house is super cozy and had all the essentials. The bed is cozy, there's hot water, the kitchen had everything we needed to cook dinner, the hot tub was definitely a major plus..... Our dog was so happy to run free and have friends to explore with. Roy and Rebecca were so accommodating to our schedule. I have never had anyone take our time frame into consideration like they did. We are beyond thankful to have stayed here and meet people like them. (We only met Roy in person but we felt like we had met Rebecca) She responds quickly and explained things thoroughly. Again, a first for us. We'd love to go back in the winter! Thanks again!!

The Tree House Cabin was clean and tidy when we arrived and well stocked with games and music, which was something I had not expected, so that was a pleasant surprise. The kitchen was supplied with ample utensils and cookware which was very much appreciated since we planned to cook most of our meals there as opposed to driving into town for dinner every time. When we arrived we were happily greeted by three excited tail-wagging dogs, who encouraged us to play fetch with them. They even greeted us again the next morning and were very curious about our breakfast... :) Loved the wood burning stove. It kept us nice and cozy. The drive was beautiful and the people were friendly. We stopped in to ask a neighbor about a Church on their property and they were happy to give us a tour. Wonderful history in the area. We didn't get a chance to explore the property as much as we would have liked, since our primary goal was to relax, but the surroundings were tranquil and private. Only a 30 minute drive from Hood River. Many small quaint shops and fun activities. We didn't chance Kite Boarding since we had only two days but we will definitely plan to next time! A lovely little spot that I hope we get to visit again soon.
