This lakeside 3 bedroom retreat with huge quarried stone fireplace defines a "Maine cabin". My grandfather built the Big House in 1944 with rustic knotty pine walls, high ceilings, a modern kitchen, a spacious screened porch ten feet from the water, and spectacular lake views from every room in the house. Truly a rare and unique property in an age where newer buildings have large setbacks from the lake's edge.
Mitchell's Point is a retreat from everyday life. The solitude and quiet provides an escape from the hustle and bustle of the urban jungle and unwind next to one of the cleanest lakes in Maine. There are already enough rules to follow in a metropolitan lifestyle, so we'd rather simplify than pile on more do's & dont's. We suggest taking off your watch, unplug as much as possible, and try to relax and absorb what "Lake Life" has to offer. We expect that you and your guests treat the Lake and its neighbors with respect and use common sense, so as to preserve the placid nature of the surroundings for everyone to share and experience.
We love to entertain, celebrate birthdays, play music, cook amazing meals, and slow down enough to enjoy the little things in life with our friends. We hope you'll be on the same program, but if you're looking to have a big party, blow-out reunion, or make noise until the wee hours, then sorry - you've chosen the wrong property. Here are guidelines that MUST be followed:
- No piling in extra guests, cars, and parties without prior consent. The house is on a well and septic system designed for 6, not 20 people. If the number of guests is exceeded and the septic gets overloaded, there will be a significant charge to pump the tank out.
- Sound travels easily and over long distances on the lake. Please be respectful and vigilant of noise levels, music, loud conversation, TV, etc., especially in the calm hours during the early morning and after sunset. There's a reason it's called Echo Lake :)
- After 10pm, please bring the festivities inside. Thanks!
Being that we're surrounded by tall pine trees and water, we are hyper-vigilant concerning fire safety and water safety. Except for the fireplace, no open fires, candles, tiki torches, or similar flame sources. Camp fires in the provided fire pit are fine for cooking & s'mores, but the wind must be calm (see owner for clarification).
We highly recommend children under ten wear life jackets on the dock or near the water's edge. I have an assortment of lifejackets for children and adults. Don't forget a fido float for your pooch!
Your well-behaved dog(s) are more than welcome at Mitchell's Point! We're dog lovers, and we know that the property and lake is dog heaven. There is hardly a sadder face than a pooch leaving the Mitchell's Point after a week of constant swimming, rolling in the warm pine needles, and just being a "dog" in the outdoors. Come play!
IMPORTANT PET UPDATE (sorry... my insurance company makes me do this):
Pet (Canine) Policy...
No Cats (sorry). Canines only.
Well behaved and sweet dogs only. You know who you are :)
No prior attack or bite incident by the dog. Zero tolerance for aggressive nature of any kind. NO BITERS.
Dog acceptance should be addressed based on the characteristics of the dog and breed (some exceptions apply):
Breed - Unacceptable breeds of dogs include' but are not limited to: Rottweilers, pit bulls (all breeds including but not limited to American Staffordshire Terriers, American Pit Bull Terriers, and Staffordshire Bull Terriers), wolf hybrids, German Shepards, Doberman Pinschers, Chow Chows, Akitas, Great Danes, Dingoes, Mastiffs, Cane Corsos, Alaskan Malamutes, Siberian Huskies, Presa Canarios or any mix with the above named breeds.
Remember: Only SWEET and WELL-BEHAVED dogs allowed on the property. We love you.
Dogs MUST be house trained and disciplined. No puppies, unruly, untrained dogs, old dogs that can't hold their bladder, dogs that “mark", or dogs that chew. If damage occurs due to chewing, “bad behavior", or urine/poop accidents, expect to lose the full amount of the damage deposit, and possible termination of the rental without refund.
Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Thank you.
Dogs need to monitored 24/7 by their owners. No roaming without human supervision. Dogs must be in constant visual and voice contact with their owner. After dusk, dogs must be on a leash. No exceptions. This is for your dogs safety!
Dog owner is aware that this lakeside rental property is in rural Maine. Wild animals exist year round. Exposure to animals such as, but not limited to, deer, porcupine, skunk, raccoon, bear, loons and other water fowl, squirrels, birds of prey, mink, and beaver is a possibly. Although wild animal encounters are rare, the dog owner must take full responsibility for monitoring their dog 24/7 (especially at night) and avoiding all contact with wild animals. Injury to pet and/or wild animals can occur day or night. We will not be held responsible for your pet tangling with a porcupine, getting sprayed by a skunk, or chasing a deer because they were off leash and roaming. In fact, you may be held responsible if your pet causes injury to a wild or endangered animal. If you have a city/suburban dog that doesn't have experience with wild animals, or could potentially “run away", please come prepared with an extra long leash or rope so the dog can enjoy the property, but have some freedom and safety. I can make you a long, tangle-free lead line if need be. Remember: CONSTANT monitoring of your pet is mandatory for their safety!
Dogs are like children, and the same rules of water safety apply to them as well. If your dog can't swim, or is not strong swimmer, then you must provide for, and have the dog wear a canine PFD when on the dock or playing in the lake. Doggie swim lessons are available (I'm not kidding. I haven't failed yet!).
Noise policy - No “yappers". Occasional barking is of course permitted (they're dogs!), but constant barking, whining, or howling is strictly not permitted, and will result in early termination of rental contract and loss of refund. This is a quiet lake. Let's work together to keep it that way please. Thank you! (whew)
I'm a food and travel photographer that loves nature and adventure. Never one to shy away from outdoor activities, I am super passionate about my sports, be it skiing, climbing mountains, or playing above and below the water. I've spent the majority of my time in New York City & Vietnam taking photos and video of the amazing people, cultures, and surroundings I encounter. If I had to list three things I can't live without while at the Lake, it would sharing be a good meal, a cold craft cocktail in hand, surrounded by my friends and family.
