Beautiful, cozy bedroom in cute beach House. 1 block from some of the best beaches for surf, tidepooling, and bonfires. Quiet house on private lane with all the Santa Cruz amenities nearby. Explore town on the electric cruiser bikes, use the surfboards, soak in the hot tub! And then visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium with our 2 guest passes.
This is a lovely little room in a cute house. Hot tub, outdoor fire-pit, hammock, wood fired pizza oven. Outdoor shower (with hot water) for when you come back from the beach (and a regular indoor shower of course). The house and the room get amazing light as there are skylights throughout the house. One block from 26th Ave. beach, a few blocks from Pleasure Point, and close to the 41st Ave. shopping and surf shops.
We have two electric pedal assist bikes that guests can use. They go up to 20 mph and are great for exploring all of santa cruz without having to use a car and worry about traffic and parking. Great for getting down to the boardwalk, downtown, westside beaches, or Capitola village. Santa Cruz really is best on a bike, as it's only about 6.5 miles wide, from Capitola to the far West Side. Plus, skip the hassle of renting bikes (and the $50 bucks a day for renting electric bikes...).
We have 2 longboard surfboards for guests to use. Great boards to use right down the street at Pleasure Point, which is an excellent spot to try surfing out!
We also have boogie boards, skimboards, frisbees, baseball gloves, footballs, soccer balls, beach games (Kan Jam, Spikeball, smash ball, etc), beach chairs and umbrellas all available for you to use.
If you would like to use our Monterey Bay Aquarium guest passes, please let us know as soon as possible, because same as the electric bikes, we have friends who use them as well. First come first serve, so let us know.
If you are interested in using the wood fired oven, please let us know ahead of time, so that we can make sure to be prepared. If we are in town and free the evening you are here, we'd be happy to set you up and make some pizzas! It really is a blast.
The room has a TV set up with Chromecast. So you can stream anything (Netflix, HBO, Etc.) straight from your phone or laptop onto the TV through the Chromecast.
The entire house is 2 bedrooms (ours and the guest bedroom), with the living room separating the bedrooms. If you are interested in having the house all to yourself please send us an inquiry and maybe we can work something out. Our room is not set up to rent, but if you simply want the place to yourselves during your stay that can be arranged depending on our travel/work schedule. The nightly cost for that would be 175-200 a night instead of 100-150.

Guests have access to a complete kitchen, outside gas BBQ, hot tub, shared bathroom, living room, and multiple outdoor areas. Kitchen is stocked with all the plates, cookware, utensils that you would need, and we are always willing to share spices and whatnot that you might need if you decide to cook at the house. Guests are also welcome to use the washer/dryer.

We (Anja and Evan) do live at the house so expect us to be doing normal things in the common area, cooking, relaxing, etc.
Evan works from home 2-3 days a week baking bread and pastries out of the wood fired oven. He sends out an email to a list of 500 people and takes orders until he sells out. Bake days are typically Friday and Saturday but it can move around a bit. This means he'll be in the kitchen prepping or out in the yard tending the wood fired oven most of the day. On bake days, neighbors and friends who ordered will be stopping by to pick up bread and pastries.
Sometimes we will be gone all day and sometimes we might be around more often. You can always contact us before you decide to rent if you want to know what our schedule is going to be like and we will always try to keep our guests posted on when we will be around. It is a small house though, so expect interaction in the common areas. If you are looking for some sort of romantic and private stay, please consider contacting us to rent the entire house because this is a shared home and not generally conducive to private romantic stays.
We consider ourselves friendly and want to remind guests that we host often and enjoy people being around, so please don't be afraid to use the house. Feel free to join us, and don't feel like you are intruding, if we're using one of the outside areas, cooking, or hanging out in the living room. If we minded company, we wouldn't be doing this.
We have a cute little white cat (Auroara), so if you are allergic to cats this might not be an ideal place. She's a quiet indoor/outdoor cat with a funny personality and generally stays out of the way when people are around.
We do occasionally allow other animals, but please message us first to check because of our cat.
DO NOT USE INSTANT BOOK! Do not book until you have sent us a message and have heard back from us (find the button marked "contact host", which is usually at the bottom of the page or click on our profile picture). Tell us about yourselves and trip. This is a shared home so we want to make sure that our home (and us!) matches what you are looking for on your trip. We will respond really quick to your message and let you know whether to finish the booking. If you really need to instant book and can't wait the few minutes to an hour for us to get back to you, please book someone else's home! If you instant book without checking in with us 1st, we will cancel your booking. Sorry for the extra step, but Airbnb is forcing hosts to switch to instant book, which is hard if you are sharing a home. Thank you so much for understanding!
1 Night Stays:
We generally have not done 1 night stays in the past, because like a lot of hosts find, it is a lot of extra work and necessitates being around the house and making our schedule work for Airbnb every day. That being said, we understand that a lot of travelers are just passing through and they just don't have time for 2 night stays and it's a bummer when the best places are not available for 1 night. We have definitely begged to stay 1 night at 2 night places during our travels. So, we allow 1 night stays under your choice of 1 of these conditions. 1st, we can add a $15 cleaning fee to your reservation. Or 2, you can skip the cleaning fee and do the room switch-over yourself. This means changing the sheets, re-making the bed, cleaning up any messes if you made any. Basically, put the room back into the condition it was when you showed up. If you are willing to do this, then we will accept you for a 1 night stay. When we have had a 2 night minimum we felt bad for those who sent us messages asking for 1 night stays, so hopefully this is a good compromise for conscientious travelers. When you message us about your trip, please let us know that you have read this and it works for you!
Please include in your message when you send us a message (before you book!) this code: 1111aaaa (It’s also the most important password for the house, the wifi, haha) This is our little catch-safe to make sure that our guests have had a chance to read our listing and make sure that our hosting style and the house itself are a good fit for what you would like for your trip. So, if you are reading this, please take the time to look at our full listing. While we absolutely enjoy hosting, we also use this home ourselves and will be going about our lives with you here. This means you’ll be sharing a small house with us and could possibly stay during Evan’s baking days, us having friend’s over, cooking meals, etc. All the amenities that make our house attractive (hot tub, outside space, beach access and toys) are things that we enjoy ourselves as well. Because this is a shared house, we don’t want anyone to be surprised or misunderstand our house or hosting style. But, most of all, we want everyone to be stoked and enjoy their stay!
Other than that, normal rules. Be respectful of the space. Clean up after yourself, do your dishes, etc.
While we have a "strict" cancellation policy, if you need to cancel, we will refund you as soon as someone else books for the day(s) you were going to stay. You can cancel all the way up to the same day, but obviously, the more notice the better the chances are of someone else taking your place so that we can then refund you.
As mentioned in the description we occasionally leave to go backpacking or on trips and the house will be all yours while we're gone. Which is awesome for you, because you just scored a sweet beach bungalow all to yourself for the price of a room! IF this happens and only IF someone is staying again before we get back (and we will let you know as soon as we can), then you will be left with one extra responsibility when you leave, which is to make sure the room is ready for the next person. What this means basically is that you would need to change out the sheets and pillowcases and stick them in the laundry room hamper. And then remake the bed for the next guests with the clean sheets that will be in the drawer under the daybed. And if you tracked in a bunch of sand from all your time at the beach, maybe give the room a little sweep. Last, check any areas in the house you used and make sure you left them the way you found them (kitchen counters clean, dishes done, bathroom sink clean, etc.) Essentially, leave the house the way you found it, which should have been clean and whatnot.
If this does not seem like a fair trade (awesome house all to yourself for 10 minutes of work) there are two options: 1) do NOT book or 2) let us know that you would prefer a cleaning fee (which we don't charge normally) of $25 for your trip, so that we can set up for our cleaning person to do the work we normally do ourselves when we're home.
