The first thing I ask of guests when they arrive is to please discuss any concerns that come up, as I do my best to help or resolve anything.
FYI, I spend about 4 hours cleaning EACH room EVERY time a guest departs: at least 3 loads of laundry (about 6 hours of laundry time), vacuuming, dry mopping and wet mopping the floor, washing every dish, glass, mug & utensil I have in the room for my guests, dusting, etc. & then I ensure you have supplies such as tea, water, paper towel, tissue ... I also spend from 1.5 - 2 hours cleaning the bathroom tub, sink, toilet, floors and mirrors very thoroughly and checking all supplies (bath tissue, paper towels, fresh hand towel, etc.). You get a very great deal for the room rental.
You are not renting the common family area downstairs as we live in the house, too, and an additional cost to you for that would not be fair, but you are most welcome to use the common area (most guests do not use it much), and the laundry, if necessary. I have cleaning standards for the main floor, too, and, for example, vacuum and/or mop it frequently or DAILY, depending on location.
ROOM SIZE: To address the room size, it is typical of rooms in California condos, and bigger than the rooms in many apartments I've been in around here. Specifically, the distance from the room door to the window is 10 feet (3 meters), and the room width is 9 feet 10 inches (basically 3 meters). The closet extends off the side of the room and is 5 feet 9 inches (1.8 m) X 1 foot 10 inches (0.6 m) with two shelves the entire length and a small wire rack shelf at one end. So the closet does not impinge upon the space in the room.
MATTRESS & BOX SPRINGS: No guest (out of ~74) has ever had an issue with the mattress & box springs being on the floor. The top of the mattress is 17.5" from the floor, and even when I sat on it, it was 16.5". The seat of chair in your room is exactly 17" from the floor, so I'm lost as to why this is an issue. I measured the seat heights of other furniture in my house: the "chair & half": 17"; kitchen dining chairs: 17.5"; couch: 17.5". I am sorry if this bed caused you any problems, but I have never had anyone ever say anything bad about that bed (in fact, quite the opposite, please see other reviews!) & no one has ever mentioned the height from the floor as an issue. --> I don't know: what height would have been better? The bed in the other guest room is 21.5 inches from the floor ...
PARKING: The description of the available parking associated with the condo IS and has been mentioned in my room description as follows: "No parking allowed in the Visitors Parking" and "Street parking only". This is out of my ability to control, it is just a fact of condo living in Sunnyvale with businesses growing all around here & dealing with an HOA when I do not have a driveway or a street in front of my home. I have now added that "The later people arrive, the further away they may have to park on the public streets." I have noted some potential distances. Personally - and perhaps I walk fast - it takes me about 7-8 minutes maximum if I arrive very late, thus parking about 0.3 - 0.4 miles (500 - 700 yards or 482 - 644 m) away. Yes, my daughter & I park on the street, too. I honestly don't mind (although I try to park close to home) as it's a very safe and quiet neighborhood, and while it initially annoyed me, I set my mind to enjoying the redwoods, the air, the birds...& the walk. There is no point in being upset about something I can't do anything about, but it could be problematic if you have physical issues walking and/or are tired, and I totally empathize! So, hopefully, this is now more clear.
With respect to clutter: There is exercise equipment & there are storage boxes in corners on the main floor, as I was working on / had just completed some financial issues just before you arrived - which I told you about when you arrived and apologized for the boxes that were not in the corners. These financial issues were only resolved in March 2018, just before you arrived, so that those 5 - 6 boxes could be "filed" (after your departure). A good proportion of the other "stuff" in the corners belongs to my kid, who has 3 jobs and goes to SJSU. She's very busy, so I will not push her when it is so important for her to get through college. BTW, a lot of the contents are gifts of school-related office supplies (from other family members) that she needs, or her school-related stuff & records, & there is nowhere else to put them. In addition, I discussed with you the fact that I have had several medical appointments this April, beginning ~23 March 2018, AND I work as much as possible as a substitute teacher - which is VERY TIRING - so I have not had that much time or energy to deal with "stuff" until this Spring Break from school (16-20 April), after you left.
There is now easily about 5 feet or more of cleared width in the living room - along the entire length of it - at this point, surrounded by normal living room furniture. There was at least 4 feet previously, with the boxes, which were not in the way of using the area, but were annoying. I'm glad I could now store them.
