A real farm stay just about an hour outside of DC

"Front Corner Room"

Oldeststone Farm offers up to 4 rooms each with a queen size bed, plus a "kids loft" with bunk beds in it. Each queen room is $125 per night. The kids loft pricing varies on the number of guests.

Built in 1734, Oldeststone Farm is the oldest house in the Shenandoah Valley. Situated on 46 lush acres, we have every animal under the sun! Pigs, sheep, horses, miniature horses, cows, parrots- even peacocks!

Be prepared for a real farm experience. The house is rustic, sometimes muddy, and sometimes has a wayward dog passing through. A chicken has been known to wander in. But the guest rooms - where no animals are allowed- are beautifully appointed with lush linens and antiques. Everything is simple, just like in the "old days." John, the owner, is an interior-designer-turned-farmer, so gorgeous little details abound throughout the house. Beautiful, but rustic. Shabby, but chic!

The house is made of stone, and to that end, it's like sleeping in a (URL HIDDEN) cool in the summer except on the hottest of days. It is not currently air conditioned. In the fall and winter, a fire-effect space heater warms the room quickly.

All rooms are shared bath.

John will be happy to give you a quick tour of the farm and introduce you to some of the resident animals, and you may even be able to pet one or two. The highlight is watching the sun go down as the two male peacocks take their evening strut across the grounds.

The house sleeps around 20, and even has a "kids loft," with a sitting area and 3 bunkbeds. If your party is large, there will be room for you. Ask about whole-house rental or accommodations for your large party. We're also happy to accommodate small groups too.

VERY convenient to all Harpers Ferry and Charles Town has to offer:

Whitewater Rafting
Horseback Riding
Charles Town Racing & Casino

Vztahy s hosty

I spend most of my day out working on the farm, but I have made some very good friends by getting to know my guests in the evening. We can spend time together or not, depending on your style. I'll be in and out all day, and we'll probably run into each other in the kitchen at night.
I have kids so you'll see them around, too.

Check in times vary and we cannot guarantee an early check-in. On Fridays, check-in time is generally 6pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, we can accommodate guests earlier.

Please understand that while we LOVE being hosts and meeting new people this way, we do have real lives outside this venture. And that's the difference between AirBnB and a traditional hotel. We're not inn-keepers, so we can't cater to everyone's desires, unfortunately. We'll do our best, though!

In the area where only the guest rooms and living room are: no food allowed and only clear liquids please. Kindly do not bring food or drinks into the living room or guest rooms. There is lots of light colored furniture and we want to keep the upholstery clean. But, you are absolutely welcome to enjoy these things in the enormous communal eating area, the kitchen, or the porches.

Also, no animals allowed in the area where the living room and guest rooms are. There are hundreds of animals on the property, but even they have places that are "off limits." Pets staying with us will be given fine accommodation in our bunk room downstairs. Also, there are farm dogs wandering freely throughout the property, so if your dog does not play well with others, this may not be the place for him.

Please do not wander the farm without asking John first. He'll point out the places you are free to roam. Gates can be left open easily and animals can get loose quickly. Also, not all animals are friendly, so do not just walk up to them. John is happy to make "introductions" to the animals!

We had a really lovely stay at Oldeststone farm. As other reviewers have noted, you really have to see it to believe it—there are animals everywhere, and it's very magical. Our bedroom was clean and very comfortable, with lovely morning light and fresh country air. It was so nice to wake up to. Though John & co. generously invited us to eat with them both nights, we ended up eating out. Favorite meal was at Bistro 112 in Shepardstown, which is definitely worth a visit (about a 25 minute ride from the farm). We rented bikes from Get Out & Go in Ashburn, Va., which was cheap and convenient. Then we rode the W&OD trail to Leesburg and stopped off the train for a drink at what people in town call "the beach bar" — serious Jimmy Buffett vibes, but it has pleasant outdoor seating & shade on a nice day. We also took a really nice, long kayak down the Potomac. We rented from the extremely friendly Eddie at Pedal & Paddle, which I cant recommend enough. This may be noted elsewhere, but since I wasn't 100% aware when heading to the farm, a couple things to note: - This really is a FARM, not a sort of "Disneyland" version of a farm. So there are animals and mud, etc. around. I'd wear jeans or other clothes that aren't too precious when walking around. - If you have any sort of animal allergies, the farm will probably be a challenge for you. - This would be a really great place to come if you have a friendly dog -- another couple staying this past weekend brought their dog, and it spent the whole weekend romping around w the farm dogs.

This by far was my most unique Airbnb experience! Dr. Doolittle meets Green Acres!!Animals everywhere making the place a happy place. Some animals are in and some out, but never disruptive. Friendly. John allows his guests to have a raw farm experience. The country side is pristine! Lots to do if you want to explore, or just simply hang and enjoy the animals and beauty. Nate was exceptional in accommodating any requests and speedily so. A big Thank you for sharing your historic paradise and the dream you've worked so hard to bring into reality!!

Amazing place with wonderful real deal farm atmosphere. If you like animals and want to expirence the farm lifestyle this is a perfect place! Lot's of cats, dogs, pigs, chickens, horses, goats, etc. Be respectful and they will let you pet them. Most of their animals are used to people, and definitely it's a great place for children. John and his family will treat you like his family members. He even bought fireworks for my wife's party! Nate (the guy with long beard) is very passionate about the farm and animals, and will be happy to share his knowledge. He cooked with his wonderful girlfriend an amazing dinner and breakfast for us. Highly recommend this unique and peaceful place! We went there with our friends and family for my wife's birthday and had the best time

As so many have written, this is a special place with an almost magical feel. The main house is so well decorated while maintaining a unique, earthy vibe that we just loved. The animals really define the space outside the main house. We are big animal lovers which made for great fun with the rambunctious dogs, playful kittens, sweet pigs, opinionated peacocks and the rest of the menagerie. Nate was very attentive, looking after all our needs and going out of his way to make us feel at home. On hot days, the lack of AC might bother some, but the super-comfy bed and fan were just fine for us. We'd love to come again.

The farm and property is more gorgeous in person, the photos don't do it justice. Everything was beautiful and peaceful. We can't wait to come back!

I was lucky enough to spend my birthday weekend here and I couldn't have asked for anything more perfect. John and Nate made me and my friend feel incredibly welcome, going out of their way to buy me cake, offer us wine, and show us around town. They are truly the most welcoming, interesting hosts I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. The farm itself is a thing of beauty — John's taste in furniture and decor is immaculate, and sleeping in the amazingly soft linen bedding will make you feel like you're suspended in the simplicity and loveliness of the early 18th century. The animals— from barn cats and labradors to sheep, albino peacocks, gorgeous horses, cows, bunnies, pigs, a family of goats, and every variety of farm bird imaginable— are all friendly, adorable, and make the experience unforgettable. John & Nate have a myriad of interesting plans for the property and each one will make this place more and more charming and desirable. The location, the hospitality, the history, and the setting of Oldeststone Farm have made my weekend there some of the best three days of my life. (And yes, Nate's secret coffee recipe IS worth the the entire stay!)

In 2011 I sold everything I owned to finally realize my lifelong dream of owning a farm. I'm a single dad with 3 kids, who split their time between the farm and DC. I always wanted to be surrounded by kids and animals- and now I am! I work probably 14 hours a day getting this place up, running, and sustainable. I'm up with the sun and having a glass of wine on the porch at sunset.

This is a working farm: with all the good and the bad. We've got all different types of animals: cows, pigs, sheep, horses, miniature horses, chickens, geese, ducks- even peacocks! Here you can get pretty close to the animals and most are very gentle. We've also got a few rowdy farm dogs, we get muddy and dirty, the roosters crow in the morning and you might find yourself stepping over a "cow patty" or three. Be prepared to get in touch with where our food comes from: its a real as it gets at Oldeststone Farm. I'm trying to run this place like it was in the days it was built.

In my "former life" I was an interior decorator, catering to high-end clients in Washington DC. So you'll find plenty of beautiful details in every corner of this home. It's rustic but beautiful.
