Castle Cary, Anglie, Velká Británie

Terraced character cottage originally built as accommodation for the horse hair weaving factory opposite. It is newly refurbished and dogs are welcome. The well equipped cottage is within walking distance of charming country town, mainline station and open countryside. Ideal base for visiting Glastonbury, Stonehenge, Bath, Longleat, Stourhead The Newt in Somerset or Hauser & Wirth. Or as overnight accommodation for Cadbury Court, Pennard House, Sparkford Hall, Holbrook Manor or Kilver Court.
Our aim is to provide clean, comfortable accommodation at a reasonable charge. Set over two floors, you are welcomed through the front door into the living room with dining table and chairs, comfy seating and internet enabled tv. Through the hallway is the bathroom which has a shower over the bath, wash basin and wc. From the hallway, a few steps lead you down into the well equipped kitchen and back door, taking you down further steps to the garden. The garden has ample space for relaxing with a lawned area, flower borders and an archway takes you to the gravelled area - with views over open fields and Glastonbury Tor. Upstairs there are two bedrooms - one King size, overlooking the front of the property, with dressing table and garment hooks ; the other double room overlooks the garden, with garment hangers and shelves.
Born and bred in Castle Cary, I confess I am biased but not without good reason. We are rightly proud of our independent shops, coffee shops and pubs - you can get most things you need and much more you didn’t know you needed! The town itself has a museum based in the historic Market House and one of only a few surviving Round House prisons to visit. Castle Cary is a great base if you’re attending an event at Cadbury Court, Holbrook Manor or Sparkfork Hall. Equally suitable if you’re planning to visit more popular tourist spots like Clark’s Village, Glastonbury, Longleat, Haynes Motor Museum, Yeovilton, the Somerset Levels, Stonehenge and Stourhead.

  • Velmi milující dům, před domem jsou květiny, doma mám květiny ve váze. Velmi teplé. Místnost byla prostornější, než se očekávalo. Hostitel byl velmi přátelský a reakce byla velmi aktuální. Všechno v místnosti. Čisté, uklizené a teplé. Zanechal hluboký dojem na naší cestě do Velké Británie pro čtyři lidi a úžasné vzpomínky!

The Hayloft is a converted farm building with comfortable, 2 bed accommodation on a gated property. The heart of Castle Cary is 2 minutes walk while the garden in which the Hayloft is situated backs onto fields. The best of town and country at once! We have just completed a full redecoration, including new bathroom. We're really proud of it. Come and see for yourselves!
The Hayloft dates back to the early 1800s when it was a farm-building. It is comfortably equipped, cosy and warm. Tucked away from the street it's a haven of calm yet only 2 minutes walk from the centre of town for any shopping needs.
Castle Cary is one of Somerset's jewels. The buildings are mainly beautiful honey-coloured Hadspen stone. The market town itself has a thriving heart of shops, pubs and restaurants. We feel privileged to live here.
Stylový a útulný.

    Emma2019-02-17T00:00:00Z

    Olivia2019-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Děkujeme, že jste nám nechali zůstat ve vaší stodole, byla krásná uvnitř a krásné doteky místních produktů, když jsme přišli, byly skvělé! Určitě zde zůstaneme, když navštívíme své přátele.

    Sophie2019-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • Velký prostor pro malou rodinu. Naše děti milovaly nastavení (stejně jako my). Město je příjemné místo a všechno je skvělá. Díky Johnovi!

Large, tastefully decorated en-suite room with king size bed/quality bed linen. Self contained with TV, desk space and sofa. To allow for your privacy we provide basic breakfast items for your stay without disturbing you each morning. The picturesque centre of Castle Cary is a few minutes walk away. Ideal for a couple, but the sofa bed could accommodate a child, please enquire and see space details. Please DO NOT Instant Book if attending Bath Showground / Glastonbury events, see space details.
This luxury room which is newly decorated forms part of our house but is self contained with its own entrance. Just a few minutes walk from the delightful town centre. Visit the historic market house, the thriving Tuesday local market or the vintage market run once a month. You are near to Bruton where the Hauser and Wirth gallery is found, together with noted restaurants, and nearby is the newly opened visitor attraction - 'The Newt'. A little further afield you are spoilt for choice of National Trust properties as well as Glastonbury, Wells, Bath, Street for Clark’s shopping village, and Shepton Mallet for the Kilver Court designer village and garden, or a visit to the notable prison. IMPORTANT NOTE: While we are not far from Bath Showground and Glastonbury we do not take bookings for late / overnight events. This is due to the fact that we are not aware of any local taxi services that are available for such events and it is about a 5 mile walk from the Showground down busy country roads with no pavement. We appreciate that bus services are sometimes shown as offered to and from the station but these never seem to run to suit the time people want to return. Having brought up our own children we no longer wish to have the worry of young adults not getting back, or having to act as a taxi service for people at such events. No cleaning charges applied. Tea / coffee / basic breakfast items provided Coffee machine Mini fridge We have a no smoking policy We request that guests remove shoes when entering. £10 additional charge per night for child using sofa bed (enquire first please using ‘contact host’ no instant booking for this).
All around the area is beautiful countryside. Opposite the property is an open area for walking with some exercise equipment if feeling energetic. Beside the property is the sports field which you wander across on the path to get into town. There are places to eat in town, as well as takeaways, and some excellent pubs and restaurants not too far distant including renowned restaurants in Bruton.

Castle Cary is one of Somerset's most attractive and popular market towns (market takes place on Tuesday). It has a rich mix of independent shops, restaurants, dog friendly pubs and other amenities. Renowned for the beauty of the local period architecture. The surrounding countryside is of particular appeal, with major landmarks such as Stourhead, Glastonbury, Camelot and many beautiful walks and towns nearby. If you prefer golf, fishing, horse riding or water sports these are all available a short drive away. A drive away: Noah's Ark Zoo farm Museum of Somerset Wells Cathedral Bath Bristol Glastonbury Stourhead Frome Stone Henge Nearby Castle Cary is a popular market town with the main shops a five-minute walk away & great pubs and walks nearby. Market Square: Tuesdays 9am-2pm Small general street market including local produce only a short walk in to Castle Cary centre Vintage flee market with various stalls for clothes and bric-a-brac. Food The main food shops are Martins (shuts 5.30pm), with an excellent deli and reasonable wine selection, and the Co-op (shuts 10pm). Both are a short walk down the high street on the left hand side. Pop up food is aviable on some days at the market hall (center of Cary) in the evenings at the centre of Cary. These are the best sourdough pizzas ever...! Starts around 5.30 and ends at 8 but be there on good time as they can get busy and run out. Green grocer/florist further down the road and a butcher behind the old market building who makes delicious pies, with a very good wine shop next door. Should you want to taste and purchase very good wine then the Somerset Wine Company has opened a marvellous emporium opposite the station. You will need to take your car if you don't fancy carrying the bottles (or cases) back up the hill! The rest There's a Barclays bank in town with ATM and there is a Post Office, Boots, several hairdressers, a pet shop, fancy dress shop and even a music shop. Other shops include: clothes shops, small art shops/galleries, and interior decor shops. The Bakehouse serves excellent Thai food at lunch during the week and Friday and Saturday evenings. Levant is renowned for great food on the weekends, please book. There is an excellent Deli / cafe with outside seating off the Market Hall for lunch and local produce. The Gallery Bar now does excellent food most evenings and has a pizza oven at the rear, drinks and live music occasionally, but please check what’s on and opening times. https://thegallerybar.co.uk/ Pubs The George Hotel is the main watering hole and is a short stumble from the house just before you arrive at the market. They are dog friendly. The George has a good restaurant. Other great local pubs are- The Bull Inn, Hardway (good for walks around Stourhead & Kings Alfred’s Tower)- The Castle, Bruton- The Talbot Inn, Mells, near Frome is the sister pub to the Beckford Arms in Tisbury. You will need to book for either of these as they have very good restaurants. The Queen's Arms in Corton Denham near South Cadbury is one of our favourites; laid back and friendly with great food & an open fire and pub garden. Dogs are almost mandatory here! Cadbury Hill is nearby (see walks below). Book at the weekends. The Three Horseshoes in Batcombe is well known for it's food and position and has a large garden. Walks Walks around this area are numerous but the best one to take without needing your car is right out of the gates down the high street. Left along the small alley beside the George Hotel. Follow the path up and into the field. Climb to the top of the hill and take a breather on a bench whilst looking down onto the town and across to Glastonbury Tor. We like walk the up the high street, straight over the cross roads, bear left at the fork and down the road for a few minutes to the fields on either side, and wander over the fields. More favourite walks, if you have a car, are around the woods at King Alfred's Tower, Tower Rd, Stourhead, Warminster BA12 6QD South Cadbury is a 15 minute drive away and you can walk around the old overgrown ramparts of Camelot. End up at the Queen's Arms pub in Corton Denham afterwards for a good pint and great food. Book at the weekends. Stourhead has a 2-3 hour walk and Alfred's Tower is a beautiful walk through the forest too. Nearby Bruton Now renowned for it's recently opened international art gallery, Hauser & Wirth Somerset, in Dropping Lane, Bruton: (website hidden) (about 10 mins by car). Also full of unusual shops. At the Chapel, on the high street, is a well-known restaurant and bakery. It is very relaxed and child friendly and their pizzas and bread, made on the premises, are legendary. Really great for a lazy breakfast with the papers but book for weekend lunch or supper. Dog friendly garden in the summer. Matt's Kitchen on Bruton high street, is a wonderful quirky house/ restaurant so do book as Matt only has a few small tables in his own house. Open: Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. BYOB and cash only. Excellent and imaginative food from a tiny menu created from whatever delights he finds in the market that week. near 33 High St, Bruton, Somerset BA10 0AH If you like cheese then visit the Godminster Farm Shop in Bruton to pick up some of the famous organic cheddar and vodka. Soho House members have Babington House Hotel with spa, gym and sauna and a great restaurant. About 30 mins by car.

Delightful period/retro styled cottage in the heart of a popular and picturesque Somerset market town. A great base for exploring Somerset or just enjoying the charms of Castle Cary; the Tuesday food market, weekend antiques market, cosy local pubs, and lovely countryside walks right on your doorstep. The cottage itself is well located within the old town centre, but in a quiet alleyway with a sunny private patio/garden area. Walking distance from Castle Cary rail station, free parking nearby.
The cottage is newly renovated but has a whole host of original features such as wooden beams, polished stone flagstone and timber floors. It's tastefully decorated with items collected from local furniture fairs, and where-ever possible we've used up-cycled materials such as the the school science laboratory worktops in the kitchen, and units recovered from a 1940's home. Despite its period charm the cottage has some modern benefits like toasty warm central heating, new plumbing and electrics, and the full range of modern appliances. The cottage will comfortably accommodate four people in the generously sized double bedrooms and a modern shower room with unlimited hot water. The kitchen and dining area is perfect for group meals and the antique farmhouse dining table is great for enjoying home cooked meals using locally sourced food from the range of shops and markets on your doorstep.
Castle Cary is a small market town surrounded by miles of unspoilt countryside, and has been described as one of Somerset's prettiest places. The town is characterised by its lovely old buildings constructed of the distinctive honey coloured stone for which the area is well known. Castle Cary has some lovely traditional shops and boutiques, a great delicatessen, a number of places to eat, and a fantastic traditional English pub called the George, all located in close walking distance from the cottage. There is a food market each Tuesday, and during the summer an antiques market at the weekend. Take a walk up the path next to the George to explore the footpaths around the old castle, and take in the amazing views across the Somerset levels and of Glastonbury Tor. Further afield Castle Cary is a great base to explore Somerset, and there is a huge range of things to do within easy driving distance: Bath, Bristol, The Newt Estate, Shepton Mallet showground, Cheddar Gorge, Cheese Tours, Longleat Safari Park, Wooky Hole, Cadbury Castle, The Fleet Air Arm Museum, Hayne Motor Museum, or just choose to relax and enjoy your stay!

Renowned for the beauty of the local period architecture. The surrounding countryside is of particular appeal, with major landmarks such as Stourhead, Glastonbury and Camelot and many beautiful walks and towns nearby Markets Tuesdays- Bustling, general street market including local produce only a short walk in to Castle Cary centre 9am-2pm Located around the Market House, Castle Cary Castle Cary train station runs services to London in under 2 hours and is only a seven minute drive away. The Nurseries forms part of an enclosed group of three contemporary renovated houses at the top of Castle Cary High Street. Castle Cary is a market town and the main shops are about a five minute walk from the Coach House. The main food shops are Martins, which has an excellent deli and a reasonable wine selection, and the Co-op. There is a green grocer/florist further down the road and a butcher behind the old market building who makes delicious pies, with a very good wine shop next door. Banks in town are Barclays and Nat West and there is a Post Office, Boots, several hairdressers, a pet shop, fancy dress shop and even a music shop. Other shops include: clothes shops, small art shops/galleries, and interior decor shops. The George Hotel is the main watering hole and is a short stumble from the house just before you arrive at the market. On Tuesday mornings there is a bustling farmers market with an excellent organic vegetable stall. The George has a good restaurant and The Bakehouse serves excellent Thai food at lunch during the week and Friday and Saturday evenings. Walks around this area are numerous but the best one to take without needing your car is left as you walk down to town just alongside The George Hotel. Follow the path up and into the field. Climb to the top of the hill and take a breather on a bench whilst looking down onto the town and across to Glastonbury Tor. Outside of Castle Cary there is Bruton (about 10 mins by car) which is also full of unusual shops. The main attraction there though is At the Chapel in Bruton high street which is a well known restaurant and bakery. It is very relaxed and child friendly and their pizzas and bread, made on the premises are legendary. Really great for a lazy breakfast with the papers but book for weekend lunch or supper. Dog friendly garden in the Summer. Matt’s Kitchen on Bruton high street, if you can book as it is only a few small tables in his own house, is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. BYOB and cash only. Excellent and imaginative food off a tiny menu created from whatever he finds in the market that week. If you like cheese then visit the Godminster Farm Shop in Bruton to pick up some of the famous organic cheddar and vodka. South Cadbury is a 15 minute drive away and you can walk around the old overgrown ramparts of Camelot. End up at the Queen’s Arms in Corton Denham afterwards for a good pint and great food. Book at the weekends. Stourhead has a 2-3 hour walk and Alfred’s Tower is a beautiful walk through the forest too. Other great pubs are the Talbot Inn in Mells, near Frome and it’s sister pub, the Beckford Arms in Tisbury. You will need to book for either of these as they have very good restaurants.

Castle Cary is a lovely, thriving historic market town in north Somerset. There are a series of good shops and galleries and plenty of access to good restaurants and bars locally, largely in Bruton (known as the Notting Hill of Somerset) and surrounding village pubs. There are wonderful walkers' footpaths that start from the back of the house. The National Trust house of Stourhead with its fabulous gardens is nearby as is Longleat with its famous zoological park. The historic market town of Sherborne, Wells, with its amazing cathedral, and the discount designer shopping mecca at Kilver Court in Shepton Mallet are also local draws. The historic World Monument Centre of Bath is 26 miles away. In other words there is a lot to do and see. In addition, it's a perfect base for parents visiting children in the number of top schools in the area or for visitors passing through. Castle Cary itself has the only remaining horse hair factory (supplying textiles to Royal Palaces) in the country. A pond still exists in the town where the horses would come and have their tales washed before their hair was snipped. The town also must have been home to some very naughty people in the past as there are three ancient lock up prisons to visit. Market days are on a Tuesday and people come from far and wide to visit it, as well as go to the travelling fishmonger on a Friday. Some of the best cheese and cider producers in the UK are close by and also bread makers. The reputed site of King Arthur's famous Camelot 10 minutes away at Cadbury Castle.

All our rooms are named after our children. Polly & Barnaby's is one of our most popular, has a corona above the bed and overlooks Glastonbury Tor. The bed is French and really comfortable. We can have eight guests in total in our home from home. Just ring and ask. The top floor is ideal for families. Two bathrooms are up there and three rooms: two doubles and one twin which can be converted into a double.
