Food scene
The Green Leaf Grill is also a short walk (~5 min) away from the cabin. They have award winning catfish and their ‘Bama Grown Fried Catfish Sandwich has been featured in Delta Sky Magazine. If fish isn’t your thing, we highly recommend their fried green tomato BLT. All of their food is delicious, so you can’t go wrong!

The Mentone Market is located directly next door and is one of the best places to grab a quick bite any time of day. For breakfast we recommend trying their waffles! The prices are very reasonable and we love being able to walk next-door to grab a burger and (at the time of this writing) they serve the only draft beer in town!

Mentone Market
5872 AL-117The Mentone Market is located directly next door and is one of the best places to grab a quick bite any time of day. For breakfast we recommend trying their waffles! The prices are very reasonable and we love being able to walk next-door to grab a burger and (at the time of this writing) they serve the only draft beer in town!
The Wildflower Cafe is also a short walk (~5 min) away from the cabin. They are famous for their tomato pie but all of the food is to die for and the atmosphere is amazing. Throughout the day local musician Tony Goggans plays his guitar and sings for guest’s entertainment. Often there are different live musicians who perform while guests are eating dinner on the weekends. The Wildflower cafe allows you to bring your own bottle of wine (they do not sell alcohol). You can purchase a bottle of wine at the Mentone Market. They will provide glasses and even uncork your bottle for you! The restaurant doubles as a boutique with local art and handmade goods that are available to purchase. The restaurant tends to get busy on weekend evenings so we recommend calling ahead to make a dinner reservation.

The Hitching Post is a collection of shops located down the street from the cabin. Here you will find the famous Gourdie Shop as well as a bakery/sweet shop, Aunt Fanny’s Fudge, and a souvenir/antique shop, Magnolia Rose & Co. These are just a few of the many wonderful shops in the area.

Southern Style Log Furniture is the shop of local woodworker Jeff Rymer. Jeff creates everything from wooden beds and chairs to porch railings and tables. If you’re a fan of our front porch railing, then we highly recommend you visit his shop as he is the talented artist behind our front porch.

Sightseeing
The Walls of Jericho are about an hour drive from the cabin. If you are up for it we suggest visiting this beautiful site. Keep in mind this trek is not for the faint of heart. The hike is about 6 miles round trip with many elevation changes.

Cathedral Caverns State Park is located in Woodville, AL. The cave is about 1 hour away from the cabin and is a fun activity for the entire family any time of year.

If you have the time during your stay in Mentone and are interested in a day trip, Nashville is a great place to go. The drive is only about 2 hours and there is plenty to see and do. A few of our favorite stops in Nashville are Legends on the Corner, a bar on Broadway that has live music every evening and the coolest decor on the walls. For us, a trip to Nashville is not complete without stopping by Hattie B’s Hot Chicken for a bite. Don’t let the line scare you, the food is definitely worth the wait!

About an hour from the cabin you will find the city of Chattanooga, TN. There are many attractions here including a wonderful aquarium and many great restaurants. We have not spent much time here ourselves but have heard many people visiting Mentone enjoy taking a day trip to Chattanooga.
