Pingo trail
From Lilac Lodge walk down Pockthorpe Lane. Turn right into Mall Pit road. Walk straight on and past the grassy triangle in the road. You will reach a wide unmade track.Carry on until you reach the old tarmac road through the trees. Follow this to the end. Do not go through the no entry gates to Stanford Training Area.Turn left and walk a few yards to the entrance of Thompson Water on your left. On your return retrace your steps turning right out of Thompson Water. This is part of Peddars Way. Follow this old Roman Road straight on and past the tarmac road you came along. Carry on through the woods with Stanford Trainning Area on your left. Turn right when you reach the second training area entrance,Peddars Way signpost and road. Follow the road back to Thompson village, turning left at the unmade track back into Marlpit Road. Turn left into Pockthorpe Lane and back to Lilac Lodge. A circular route missing out a visit to Thompson Water is about three miles and takes one hour.

At the end of Pockthorpe Lane go straight across, past the millenium green bearing right past the church following a few bends in the road until you reach the main Watton to Thetford Road. Turn right here and follow the main road past Gt Hockham. Just past Hockham on your right is the picnic area and entrances to Thetford forest.
Great Hockham Picnic Site
Five minutes drive from Lilac Lodge you can park your car at Great Hockham picnic area and explore Thetford Forest.
