Classic neighborhood diner, good for a good, quick breakfast that won't break the bank.

It's a bit of a walk, but the Napoletana style pizza is fantastic. They're one of the two DC restaurants certified by Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana.

This is a little further out but well worth the two-stop metro ride to get there. It's a fun place to visit, absolutely packed with food and drink options and surrounded by pleasant outdoor seating. Their rooftop is also a nice seating option.

Sightseeing

This is a little street with a farmer's market and a ton of small, local, artsy businesses that are open Saturday morning/afternoon. It's right next to the metro, so it's a great area to explore and get a snack (I can't say enough about Lei Musubi!) before heading down to the Mall.

The monastery is not offering interior tours because of covid concerns, but the gardens are open to the public (and free) from 9 AM to 4:45 PM. They're absolutely gorgeous, have a huge variety of roses as well as other flowers and plants, and are just a 15 minute walk away from the AirBnB.

It's the National Mall! From the Capitol Building and Library of Congress down to the Lincoln Memorial, it's hard to go wrong. Make sure to leave plenty of time to duck into one of the Smithsonian Museums (all are free). It's also a very pleasant walk at night, as it's a little cooler and all the memorials are lit up. From Brookland, the easiest way to get there is by taking the metro down to Judiciary Square and walking south.

Chinatown/Penn Quarter is a bustling destination of its own. It has some fantastic food (Daikaya, Bantam King, Jaleo, Rasika), nice window shopping (the very instagrammable CityCenterDC), and lots of events and shows (Capital One Arena, Woolly Mammoth, Shakespeare Theater Company), as well as the National Portrait Gallery and National Building Museum.

If you like books, board games, flea markets, or brunch, Eastern Market will feel like home. The Capitol Hill neighborhood is mostly residential, but nestled down by the Eastern Market metro station is a cozy little enclave. Eastern Market is an old-school indoor market space with outdoor vendors on the weekend. Capitol Hill Books and Labyrinth Games & Puzzles are neighborhood fixtures and the kind of places you cannot walk out of empty-handed. Local faves like Call Your Mother, Bullfrog Bagels, and District Taco are delicious without being too pricey, and a short walk away on Barracks Row, there are some more great options, as well as the Marine Barracks, known for their ceremonial parades (reservations required)
