An opportunity to watch boats navigate the Crinan canal which was built in 1801. Many of the locks are still operated manually by the boat crews with some help from the canal staff. At Cairnbaan is one of the three road bridges and the biggest of them all.

An opportunity to watch boats navigate the Crinan canal which was built in 1801. Many of the locks are still operated manually by the boat crews with some help from the canal staff. At Cairnbaan is one of the three road bridges and the biggest of them all.
Within 6 miles of Kilmartin village there are over 300 historic monuments such as cairns, standing stones, stone circles, rock art and castle ruins to explore. 150 of which are prehistoric. The remains of the fortress of the Scots at Dunadd, a royal centre of Dal Riata, are located to the south of the glen, on the edge of the Moine Mhòr or Great Moss.

Enjoy hands-on displays, wildlife feeding station, viewing hide, activities for children, and gift shop. There are several walks around the two lochs and car parks along the road giving access to different parts of the lochs. Also a favourite Sunday dog walk of ours.

Venture west offer a variety of trips from Crinan harbour at the end of the canal. They offer trips out to the famous Corryvreckan whirlpool and along the way you never know what you might see, eagles, osprey, minke whales, seals, porpoise, dolphins, basking sharks, puffins and many other wildlife species including otters, along with the odd historical landmark for good measure.
