One of many dramatic castles in the area . This is within walking distance for the more ambitious although a better option might be the 15 minute drive, a shorter walk around the castle area and an hour in the tea rooms! Check out their web site for more detail.

The 4069 runs from Llagadog to Brynamman over the Black Mountain. The view from the car park is spectacular. You can look northwards over miles of Welsh countryside and the sunsets are wonderful. You can get onto the Beacons Way here or just take the short walk up to the quarry and the limekilns that employed so many local people years ago.

While Ammanford itself is not especially beautiful there is a route along the back roads that portray the timelessness of the region. Tiny lanes, stone sheep folds, ancient farms and beautiful views. (Map of route available in the huts.) Once in Ammanford be sure to stop for coffee at Coal Town Coffee shop. This admirable enterprise is doing what it can to provide employment in an area left with very little after the closure of the coal mining industry. Check out their website for more information as to their origins and ethos. Ammanford also hosts the nearest Lidl and Tesco stores.

This picturesque Welsh town is a 20 minute drive away and is a popular place to shop or eat out. There are lots of interesting, independent shops, a good place to pick up gifts . Be sure to visit 'Heavenly' the amazing choclate shop on the High Street.
