Bar-X and the Beer Bar are companion buildings owned by Ty Burrell (Phil from Modern Family). Bar-X is more of a cocktail bar and Beer Bar is well... a beer bar with a huge selection of beers on tap. They are a great, casual places to have some drinks and nibbles while getting to know some of the locals.
Their Moscow Mule is made with fresh ingredients and served in a copper mug, delish.

Their weekend brunch is great, the food is really good and they have $1 mimosas and a Bloody Mary bar. They also have vegetarian and vegan options

Man! Do I love a hole-in-the-wall restaurant?! Nico’s is a local, family run brick and mortar restaurant with limited dining space so I usually get take out. The share their parking lot with a KOA campground and a car wash. I’ve loved every thing I’ve had there, but my favorite is their guarache and their chips and salsas are fantastic!

Sightseeing
LDS or not, this place is beautiful. All of Temple Square covers 35 acres of land, so wear your walking shoes. People travel from all over the world to visit this temple and to learn about Mormon history. The architecture is stunning and their flower gardens are gorgeous.

Little Cottonwood Canyon Road

Beautiful drive up the canyon. Snowbird offers a tram that takes you up to the summit of a hidden peak that offers a view of several different valleys.
Snowbird isn't a resort I would recommend for novice skiers because the slopes are quite steep.

The trailhead for “The Living Room” hike is right by The Natural History Museum. You can see a big chunk of Salt Lake Valley from here. The reason it’s called the living room is because over the years fellow hikers have assembled living room furniture out of large rocks.

Parks & Nature
Memory Grove is a great place to go when you want to be in nature but don't want to leave the city. It is within walking distance of the LDS Temple and across the street from the Utah State Capitol Building. It's a great place for a pic-nic, plenty of shade trees and grass to sprawl out on. Walking/ jogging trails lead you along the memorials, fountains, pond, and the river. They're is also a large wooded area along the river where you can do a bit of hiking. Be forewarned, this area is an off-leash dog park so there are a lot of super excited dogs running around in this area.

300 N Canyon RdMemory Grove is a great place to go when you want to be in nature but don't want to leave the city. Even the drive to Donut Falls is beautiful! Very wooded trail that follows and even crosses a stream. Not a difficult hike so most people can manage it just fine. At the end of the trail you will see the falls, you're not supposed to go any further than that point, but most people do.

A lot of people don't know that Utah is a favorite destination for paleontologists. Many fossils have been discovered throughout the state and are on exhibit here.
There are several levels that display dinosaurs, extinct animal skeletons, rock formations, and American Indian history.
The museum, itself is a work of art and you get a great view of the city from this location.
Tips: most people suggest planning on spending 2-5 hours here. There tend to be a lot of children here, so if you don't like kids, this probably isn't the place for you.

I love finding unique, little treasures to decorate with and this is definitely the place for that. Most vendors are selling antiques, vintage items, hand-made jewelry, and art. For the most part I've found their prices very reasonable and most are open for negotiation.
There is a great coffee shop called the Raw Bean on the north-west side of the parking lot. I recommend the "Mother of Dragons" (it's pretty much just a caramel latte, but I'm a marketers dream and they'll get my money just because they're paying homage to "Game of Thrones") A handful of food trucks are also on site, so you're sure to get your poutine fix or a navajo taco.
This market only sets up one Sunday per month.
