Beautiful Skye

Welcome to the Isle of Mists, arguably the most beautiful place in the world. This guide is about the best local places to help you enjoy Skye.
It's great - a lovely building, a great cafe and a really useful shop. It's run by and for the community - every pound spent here helps people stay on the island. It is like a city cafe - proper coffee, lovely food, nice atmosphere. It is pronounced 'An Cruv' and is back up on the main road - an easy walk of around 20 minutes.

Your ideal Scottish Bar - wood-lined, real fire, welcoming locals and fresh seafood. Very busy at peak hours in the summer. A shot of whisky in Gaelic is 'Te Bheag' which is pronounced as 'Chay Veck' - here, it is also the name of the local blended whisky, which is very good.

If you ask at An Praban you might get a local fisherman to get you some fresh catch. Anyone in the area is allowed to catch their own, for home consumption, and might have a crab or lobster spare. More reliably, go to this place in Kyle of Lochalsh and say Morag sent you. Much of seafood consumed across the continent is caught in Scottish waters and exported - catch it at its freshest. Morag is pronounced 'moor-ag'.

Great service, good prices, reliable advice. The instinct is to avoid a local garage because it will be expensive and bad. MacGillivray's is the opposite - a great local business. Totally recommended.

A great break from the fish & chips/burger & chips of so many places, this does pizzas and nice snacks and good coffee. It is pronounced 'she-a'.

It is a supermarket, but so what. The Co-Op provide food for Scotland's remote communities and islands at a fair price. All your usual brands and discounts. The closest fuel pump too (24 hours).

The house is a ruin but its a great view, a nice garden, a pleasant museum and really good playground for under-10 kids. There is also a cafe and shop.
