To be honest we have never visited but it is always busy and brings lots of people to the village. The funny thing is they have three peacocks that leave the Castle most days and like to walk down the middle of the road, stopping traffic. It is very funny to see, but all us locals know you have to slow down and let them parade!

Mountfitchet Castle & Norman Village
To be honest we have never visited but it is always busy and brings lots of people to the village. The funny thing is they have three peacocks that leave the Castle most days and like to walk down the middle of the road, stopping traffic. It is very funny to see, but all us locals know you have to slow down and let them parade!
We are 50 minutes from London by train, off peak rail card costs £24.50 (May19) and includes train, bus, and tube. We have lots of ideas of what to see and do.

Really lovely country pub with large garden, great menu. You would need to drive there, about 10 mins. Opposite, the 12th century Church St Mary's is beautiful and has an amazing set on kneelers that have to be seen, works of art.

Jamie Oliver's parent pub in Clavering, always good food, I recommend the desserts. Clavering is a really lovely English village and worth exploring if you like looking at old houses.

If you have a car and the time Thaxted is a wonderful, only small but an impressive church and lots of beautiful old houses. Pubs and cafe.

Really good Turkish and Italian restaurant, odd combo but it is very good. Nice building, it does get busy and isn't cheapest place but the food is good, nice choice of cocktails.

The village pub down the road, does pub grub, plays most football matches and has a darts board that can be fun.

This has grown significantly over the years and now draws some big names. There is a bus service from Bishops Stortford station.

A really nice spot, pleasant drive from home to hear about 15 mins. There is an antique/gift shop, florist, spa and really good cafe. I recommend the eggy crumpets or veggie hash but you cant go wrong, service can be a little slow at times but worth it.

I really like this modern theatre, you get a number of pre West Ed show on their warm up, lots of travelling companies, worth checking to see what is on
