The wildflower season in Anza-Borrego is the best time of the year to visit that park. When you get to the visitor center at Borrego Springs, they can tell you the latest wildflower "sightings" and where good spots are to view the flowers. Study a guide of the park in advance, because it is a large park and there is a lot to see.
Palm Canyon, the "pumpkin patch," Font's Point and the Borrego Badlands are some of the possible sights to see in that park. Some of the locations require a 4 wheel drive vehicle to get to but most commonly visited areas do not. Resist the temptation to go all the way to the Salton Sea, as it is a disappointment even if you have no expectations. If your trip is to be in the summer, be aware that it gets very hot in Anza-Borrego in the summer months, and that is also a time when many bugs are flying around in the air and there are rattlesnakes around on hot nights. Right now and the next few weeks is the best time to visit there as none of those problems will be there, and the wildflowers will be there.
Most people I have taken to Julian have been completely charmed by it, as it is an authentic 100-year-old gold mining town that is now an apple growing area. You can take tours of the old mines and there is a small train ride.

At nights it gets cold, especially during winters, so please get some warm , fluffy jackets, shoes , gloves etc. There are some beautiful hiking trails nearby, if you can , please get hiking shoes for serious hikers.

A beautiful setting , this restaurant sits at the edge of the Lake Cuyamaca, opens at 6 AM and closes till 8 PM. check this out, sitting on the deck of the restaurant, overlooking the lake, and having a good meal, snack is very enjoyable.

Private Vehicles are the fastest way to get around
You know, California is not great at public transport and especially Julian being a rustic setting and around 40 miles from San Diego, please have your own private vehicle
