It is a nice and joyful attraction with less than 5 euros per person. It is literally in the heart of City Center 25 minutes walk from our appartment. History Of Limmasol Castle Archaeological investigation within the castle revealed that it was built over an Early Christian basilica (4–7th century CE) and a Middle Byzantine monument (10th–11th century CE). Other finds beneath the Castle witness the existence of an important church, possibly the city's first cathedral. According to Etienne Lusignan, the original castle was erected by Guy de Lusignan in 1193. The first official reference to the fort dates to 1228, during the involvement of Frederic II of Germany in the affairs of Cyprus. From its erection until the beginning of the 16th century, damages were caused by the continuous attacks of the town by the Genoese and the Mameluks as well as by earthquakes alternating with restorations and reconstructions.

A beautiful beach with an ancient history. Located in the greater Lemesos (Limassol) area of Episkopi Bay, Kourion beach is a 1 km long coast that is particularly striking with its natural palette of colours, and a regal and ancient history. Its designated swimming area has an exceptionally wide shore, comprised of sand and pebbles. The seawaters are crystal-clear and varying shades of blue that beautifully contrast with the surrounding white hills. Windsurfing can also be enjoyed here. Facilities on the beach include toilets, showers, changing rooms, sun beds, umbrellas and several fish taverns. Within a short distance (about 1 km) there are convenience stores, a children’s playground and accommodation. Lifeguards with lifesaving equipment and first aid services are stationed at the beach from April - October. One of the island’s most famous archaeological sites - that of ancient Kourion - is close by and well worth a visit, especially for its magnificent Greco-Roman amphitheatre where cultural events are still held to this day. Access is easy by foot, bus, bike or car, with car-parking facilities available. The beach also offers disabled access.

The archaeological remains of Kourion - which was one of the island’s most important city-kingdoms in antiquity - are of the most impressive on the island, and excavations have unearthed many significant finds, which can be viewed at the site. The city-kingdom was built on the hills of the area, and overlooked and controlled the fertile valley of the river Kouris. According to archaeological finds, evidence suggests that Kourion was associated with the Greek legend of Argos of Peloponnese, and that its inhabitants believed they were descendents of Argean immigrants. The once-flourishing kingdom was eventually destroyed in a severe earthquake in 365 AD. The magnificent Greco-Roman theatre - the site’s centrepiece - was built in the 2nd century BC and extended in the 2nd century AD. The theatre has been restored, and is now used for open-air musical and theatrical performances - mainly during the summer months - making it one of the most popular settings for high-calibre cultural events. East of the theatre are the remains of a prominent building, the ‘House of Eustolios’, which was originally a private villa that was turned into a public recreation centre during the Early Christian period. Whilst the villa was modest in size, it was well equipped and richly adorned. Its remains consist of four panels of beautiful, 5th century mosaic floors in the central room, and a bathing complex that is located on a higher level, accessed by steps, north of the building. A roof structure allows visitors to enjoy the site all year round, and explore its remnants. The baths themselves originally opened off the central room to the north and east, where there were cold baths (frigidarium). Before each is a shallow foot-bath; while on the west, the remains of the hypocausts - which heated the medium room (tepidarium), and the hot room (caldarium) - can be seen. In the latter, the built-in basins for hot baths have survived, as have the firing chambers, where hot air was carried through the hypocausts, travelling up through specially-cut flues, through the walls, and beneath the terracotta tiles of the floor. Along with the House of Eustolios, there are further impressive mosaic floors in the ‘House of Achilles’ and the ‘House of the Gladiators’, with the villas named after the scenes depicted on the mosaics. The remains of the Roman Agora are also visible at the site. The structure dates back to the early 3rd century, with additions made later on, during the Early Christian period. The Roman Agora is built on the remains of an earlier public building, which was in use from the end of the 4th century to the end of Hellenistic period. The Agora of the city is surrounded by porticos with marble columns on both sides, whilst on its northwest side, is an impressive public bath and a small temple, the Nymphaeum, dedicated to the water nymphs. An early Christian basilica at the site dates back to the 5th century, with separate baptistery on the external northern side. The Stadium of Kourion lies 1km to the west, on the right side of the road towards Pafos.

Saripolou Square is known today as the most bustling square of Limassol for its cozy bars, restaurants and shops. It is a place that breathes the warm Cypriot hospitality. There are approximately 30 bars around this square, which all have their own unique vibrant identity to suit all styles and appetites. Visit the square for a traditional cypriot meze or a cold beer daytime and a cocktail and some entartainment at night. At the edge of Saripolou square you will also find the town’s old market. The market was created in 1917, in a period when Limassol was continuously developing to get to its final form as it is today. The Market as well as the surrounding traditional shops and restaurants was the center of trade and social activities until the end of the 70s, right before the creation of new shopping centers. Today an effort is at work by younger entrepreneurs so that it becomes an local attraction as it used to be. The development of Saripolou square just outside of the market has added to the re-gloryfication of the market. Traditional products, herbs, fresh local fruit and vegetables can be found there. The main Limassol bus stop is just 100 meters away form the market. Venues working hours are Mon – Sun: 10:00 am – 2:00 am. There is plenty of parking around the area, although some incur a small fee arounf 2 to 3 euro.

A food court is located on the first floor of the mall with two restaurants and a selection of fast food takeaways. Transportation The mall is served by a shuttle bus Service shuttle bus to and from the major hotels in Limassol. The schedule can be found at the mall's site. There is also an EMEL (ΕΜΕΛ) urban bus service that runs from Limassol seafront to the mall. The only other means of getting there is by car. At busy times there is significant risk of traffic congestion. A new road has been constructed to link the mall to the Nicosia/Limssol/Paphos highway, by a duel carriage way, that is primarily intended to serve a nearby Industrial estate and the Limassol New port, to relieve local roads of heavy goods vehicles calling at those locations.
