Park at South Arm jetty and take the coastal path to the Iron Pot lookout. It is a mix of formed pathways and beach walking. This passes through Commonwealth government land but its definitely ok to walk through. At the oval and flag pole you may see a local echidna. Short-tailed Shearwaters nest in burrows along this walk in the summer time.

From the other end of Cremorne beach take the path up the hill and walk along the track to Mays beach. This is about a 2-3 hour return walk depending on your speed. the track has been newly made and it is a fantastic walk along stunning Frederick Henry Bay. Mays Beach is a lovely little beach where on a good day you can take a swim.

It's really worth a trip up the kunanyi/Mt Wellington. The views are amazing and the walking on the mountain is fantastic. We recommend stopping at the Springs and grabbing a coffee from Lost Freight Cafe and walking along the Organ Pipes Walk. Lion Rock is also another short and easy route from there. If you have longer and are feeling more adventurous take the walk (Scramble) to Lost World.

Neighbourhoods

The whole of the South Arm Peninsula is full of natural beauty. Visit the tiny town of Opossum Bay, walk on the glorious beaches, visit Potter's Hill labyrinth. Stop at 'A touch of the Mo' coffee shop before walking around Arm End and getting fantastic views of Hobart and the Derwent river. Check on Facebook for A Touch of the Mo’s opening hours.

Being the town next to Cremorne there are a few decent places to know about. I have already mentioned food supplies at Hill Street Grocers but TCM has fantastic BBQ supplies although their vegetables are VERY expensive. Hill Street carries a range of Tasmanian wine and beers at very reasonable prices. Driftwood Cate/restaurant does ok breakfasts and overlooks a canal which is quite pretty. Coffee is good at Ventura Cafe. Not sure about the food. @Rice is a local Japanese cafe and is good for a casual meal or takeaway. Angie Sues is new and is super friendly with consistently good food and coffee.

North Hobart has a great range of restaurants for all occasions and palates. We love Willing Brothers Wine Bar. They serve amazing wines by the glass and great food. You will need to book unless you're dropping in for a quick wine and willing to sit outside. The State Cinema has a variety of small cinemas, interesting movies and you can take a glass of wine in with you from their bar. North Hobart is always busy at night. Templo is by far our favourite place to eat but there are many other options Bar Wa Izakaya is great for Japanese Izakaya (Pub) style atmosphere and food. You’ll need to book for evening. Ramen at lunch is great!

Food scene

The best food market you will find. Locally grown, made, produced. It's an excellent spot for breakfast on a Sunday morning. If you fancy something a little more than market food eaten on the grass try Small Fry just up the road. Good coffee and great breakfasts although it's tiny so you may need to wait for a spot at their bar.

This is the best, freshest and actually the cheapest place to buy oysters. Highly recommend if you’re oyster lovers.

Templo restaurant

If you want to eat the best Italian food in a stylish and friendly environment book in to Templo. You will need to book well ahead of your stay. We recommend the second dinner seating as you can go out for a drink at one of the many good bars in North Hobart first. It is a degustation menu and they can do Vegetarian but not Vegan I believe.

MONA Museum of Modern Art

You can catch the ferry from Constitution Dock to MONA. Its a great trip although make sure you have your parking sorted as the parking police in Hobart are absolutely vigilant! Otherwise take the car and park there and enjoy a leisurely day checking out one of the best museums in Australia.
