It is a beautiful two mile walk through woodland along the Cinder Track to Whitby from our site. Guests who don’t use the car during their stay seem to get the best experience of the local area.

And iconic car free seaside village, with a maze of tiny streets. built into the cliff. Formerly a smugglers haunt. Can be reached on foot from Valley View (a five mile hike along the Cinder Track) and there is even bus most of the way back

One of the greatest treasures of our site is the easy access to the Cinder Track which leads to Whitby one way and Robin Hood Bay the other. Its an all weather surface suitable for walkers, cyclists, groups and individuals.

The famous Captain Cook learnt his seaman's trade in Whitby. The Museum is in the 17th century house where he lodged as an apprentice when not at sea.
Cook’s voyages led to the opening up of the whole Pacific Ocean to European exploration, trade and eventual colonisation, including the formation of two modern nations, Australia and New Zealand. The consequences for peoples already living there were varied and often harmful. But in his own time Cook's work was of huge international interest.

As well as a small beach in the centre of Whitby there is a beautiful 3 mile stretch of sand from Whitby Pier to Sands End. The views are stupendous and the air is sublime
