3807 Rue Wellington Want to impress your friends? Take them to JoBlo. With a quirky and vintage-esque atmosphere, there is literally no way anyone can react to this place with anything less than awe. Wait, is there such a thing as “super awe”? Because that’s what they’ll be feeling once they try one of these delicious dishes. S/O to “The Judy Garland” for being one of the tastiest things I’ve tried so far.

Parks & Nature

Across the Lachine Canal from downtown Montreal and running westward, Verdun is one of Canada’s oldest neighbourhoods, and it’s in continual transformation: every visit reveals a new hip restaurant or cute bakery. With the path-lined canal running along its southern tip, Verdun is an ideal place for cyclists and cross-country skiers – and, in summer, even amateur fisherman! But it’s also a growing commercial centre, particularly on Wellington Street, the ‘hood’s happening main drag. We suggest you start your visit at De L’Église metro station, conveniently close to Wellington and inches from the visit-worthy Notre-Dame-des-Sept-Douleurs church, built in 1914…

Island hop to the middle of the St. Lawrence for a Montréal play date par excellence. A unique mix of green space, architecture and history, Parc Jean-Drapeau is our cherished four-season playground. A short metro, bus or bike ride from downtown, it encompasses two islands—Île Sainte-Hélène and Île Notre-Dame—and is Montréal’s most visited park for good reason. Complete with a filtered-water beach, outdoor pools, museums, acres of flower gardens, an amusement park, walking and cycling trails, an outdoor art gallery, avant-garde architecture and a casino, Parc Jean-Drapeau is a veritable mecca for outdoor enthusiasts and fun-lovers of all ages. A summertime favourite is to zoom around the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve track on a bike or rollerblades, pretending that you are as fast as the F1 Grand Prix race cars that take it over in June. The international jet set can often be found testing their luck at the nearby Montréal Casino. La Ronde amusement park offers high-velocity thrills or family-friendly fun, while Piknic Électronik brings electronic music outdoors into a non-club context for all to enjoy on warm-weather Sundays. Grab a blanket and a picnic basket, or just flake out under the stars as Montréal’s prestigious fireworks competition, L'International des Feux Loto-Québec, lights up the summer skies. Brush up on your military history at the Île Sainte-Hélène fort, or simply admire the architectural marvels of the Biosphere and Habitat 67. In winter, you can skate along the skaters’ path on Île Sainte-Hélène, and go tubing, snowshoeing or cross-country skiing on the many trails found in the park.
