Rincón de San Josecito, Drake Bay, Costa Rica

The most convenient and fastest way to get here is to take a Sansa flight from San José to Drake Bay. There are normally two flights a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. You can check times and air fares at www.flysansa.com. Be sure to also give them a call before booking to find current discounts. Once in Drake Bay airport, we will collect you and take the jungle road to Playa Rincón de San Josecito. (Please inform us of your arrival time!) This journey costs $45 and is completed by our owner Sammy or one of the other members at Kingajungalow.

Tracopa operates the route from San José to Sierpe. You can make it in time for the afternoon boat if you catch the 08:30 am bus to Sierpe that arrives around 2:30pm. The bus will drop you off directly at the river ferry! If you decide to spend the night in Sierpe to catch the morning boat, you can stay at Oleaje Sereno (where the river ferry is) or Hotel Margaritas. The boat departs from the pier in front of the restaurant Oleaje Sereno at 11:30am and 4:00pm. Arrive 30 minutes before to be safe! You will have to tell the captain you are going to Playa Rincón / Poor Man’s Paradise. The 11:30am ticket costs $25 (₡10,000 for nationals) and the 4:00pm ticket costs $35 (₡15,000 for nationals). Payments must be made in dollars or colones (₡660 = $1). It is best to travel in the morning as the conditions in the afternoon can be unpredictable It is always good to bring some large plastic bags for your luggage in case you are caught by rain along the way.

There are several shuttle companies operating in Costa Rica. You can contact them via Whatsapp for all information. Easy Ride Transportation: +506 8812 4012 Zuma Tours: +506 8476 8407 – they also operate the speed boat from Montezuma to Jaco, and offer shuttle service on both ends, which is a great option if you are coming all the way from Santa Teresa / Mal Pais / Montezuma. Interbus: +506 4100 0888 If you have your own wheels, you can drive to Las Vegas Restaurant and leave your vehicle there for $6 a day.

Make sure you stock up on cash (Dollars or Colones) and any needed medicines before getting here as there is no ATM or pharmacy in Drake Bay. The nearest ones are in Palmar Norte. The guest bar accepts cash only, as do most excursion operators. The restaurant on site accepts cards (bear in mind you will need to add the 13% tax).

There is a restaurant on site offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. Each meal costs $10 and you can close out your bill at the end of your stay via cash or card. The menu consists of locally sourced ingredients and Costa Rican cuisine including vegetables, rice, legumes and a source of protein (fish, meat or chicken) for the main meals. Breakfast options include continental, costa rican (“gallo pinto”), pancakes, omelettes, french toast, fruit, natural juices and coffee/tea. The restaurant can also accommodate dietary requirements. Coffee, Tea and Water is on offer in the restaurant all day.

Wifi is available in the bungalows, restaurant, bar and in general across the main grounds of the property. It is satellite internet so speed can vary. it is sufficient for zoom calls (at times with no video), whatsapp and emails. Most of our guests who work remotely do so from the restaurant or the bar where there are power outlets available. You will also have SIM card reception with Kolbi.
