In this small shopping center you find a supermarket (AH), drugstore, flowershop, hairdressers, bakery, butcher, liquor store, a chinese restaurant, a very nice kebab place (Reyna West, our favorite). It's a not even 5 minutes walk from our house.

Another shopping center near us, just across the bridge from where you take the bus as well. It has 2 supermarkers, a bookstore, bakery, drugstore, even a fish-store and some more... I recommend going here if you use the Koog aan de Zaan trainstation, it's basically on your way home.

Sightseeing
The biggest attraction of this area: a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses. It's not easy to reach with public transport - there is a trainstation called 'Zaanse Schans', but it's a bit of a walk from there. Nice walk though. The windmills are located nicely along the water and there are tons of souvenir-shops. So... a must-see if you want to take in some over the top Dutch culture! :)

This Albert Heijn (AH) supermarkt is closest to our house. We personally love AH. Bus 64 stops here on your way home... you can get off here and then it's just a few minutes walk to our house after you're done shopping.

Entertainment & Activities
A small cinema with 'cultural movies'. Also a nice place to eat, has a bar, and a terrace outside by the water. There is also a huge cinema in the city, but we recommend this one as it's just cozier and friendlier.

Getting Around

This is trainstation: Koog aan de Zaan. Trains run from here to Amsterdam 4x/hour. It passes Zaandam central, so vice versa from Zaandam (make sure you are on the right train), you can go one extra stop to get here. From here, you can take the path along the water and home. Nice on a sunny day!
