A gem of an independent amongst the chain-dominated offerings of Cardiff’s Mermaid Quay, Yakitori 1 serves deliciously fresh and vibrant Japanese food from sushi and tempura to katsu curry and yaki soba noodles. Owned by Meng Yap, who moved from Malaysia in 1982 with just £150 his aunt had given him, he went on to build a business which would become the biggest supplier for Asian ready meals for Sainsbury's across the UK.
