Square of March 23 in the old city of Kalamata took its name from the day of liberation of the city from the Turks in 1821. In this square there is also the church of Agioi Apostoloi, where according to tradition the Revolution was declared and the first liturgy of the liberated Kalamata took place. In the center of the square there is the monument of March 23 that commemorates the time of Revolution that was made by sculptor Christos Riganas.
